Need more input! – Reading List for the New Year

I realize I don’t read nearly enough. By nearly enough, I mean, almost zero. I read mind you…in the sense I read code and things on the internet. That said, I am wanting to expand.

I have read the Lord of the Rings. Hitchhikers Guide, some Star Wars books, and 7th Son (shout out to +J.C. Hutchins ), and Infected (shout out to +Scott Sigler ) however I am looking for more.

I asked my G+ followers for a list of reading recommendations for myself based on some of the things I read before (listed above). I will be reading these during 2011 and posting my thoughts here on my blog and on G+. Perhaps a virtual book club is in order with Google Hangouts.

Here is the list of what I got.

  • The Shining: Stephen King

  1. Hrm. Only two books by women authors. Try these:

    Solitaire by Kelley Eskridge
    Lilith’s Brood by Octavia Butler
The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood

Those are all SF, since most of your list skewed that way.

If you like mystery, try Barbara Vine/Ruth Rendell, thrillers – Kathy Reichs, historical/magic realism – Isabel Allende.

*self-promotion* You could read my books, too. They’re all SF. *end self-promotion*

  2. I don’t know if you are a regular listener of Leo Laporte’s Security Now podcast, but his latest episode #333 is all about science fiction books. It’s a great episode and gave me many new books to check out.

  3. how about the Robot Novels prior to the Foundation Series (Issac Asimov) and then the books after the 3 Foundations. All excellent stuff

  4. ONE SECOND AFTER … from William R. Forstchen

A TIME TO BETRAY … from Reza Kahlili

LICENSE TO PAWN … from Rick Harrison (can’t go wrong with this one, his name is Harrison 🙂
