I have been taking my son and my brother-in-law to Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find each year since my son was born for Free Comic Book Day! It is one of those things that we all like to do together. We get to go and hang out a bit, and look over comics which isn’t something that I do that often now-a-days and that is probably why I am so gung ho about it.

I guess the other reason I feel I have a Flag to bear for FCBD is I always thought that comic book artist and writers never really got the respect that they should. (Until recently that is with the spat of good comic book based films coming out) Comics have always had that persona that they are for kids, and to a degree that is probably true, but there is a lot of smartly written stories and amazing art that is poured into these pages that anyone should be able to find something to admire and enjoy.

Now, Free Comic Book Day to me is also a primer. A primer for Heroes Con that is held in uptown Charlotte, NC. Heroes Con isn’t a large con like San Diego or NY, but it is very comic/artist based. There are a lot of independent artists and a lot of amazing art to look at as well as a lot of interesting people to meet.

So this weekend head out to your friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Store and celebrate comics and the people that make them.

I had a good time heading out to “Heroes aren’t Hard to Find” for free comic book day, even if the weather wasn’t cooperating. It was fun, got some free books (missed the Family Guy one!) and bought a few titles I hadn’t seen in a while….and I consider this an educational trip for my son.

Ah…one of my Favorite strips, FoxTrot, is moving from a daily strip to Sunday Only!

Citing deadlines and the desire to explore other creative outlets, FoxTrot creator Bill Amend has announced that the December 30 cartoon will be the last daily FoxTrot strip.

Sadly, I don’t remember everyone’s name on all the comics I have read over the years. I wish I did because I am sure Dave’s name is all over them.

He discovered comic books at an early age. His reported favorites were Captain Marvel by Fawcett Comics and Blackhawk by Quality Comics. His ambition was to be become a comic book creator himself. However following his school graduation, Dave joined the United States Navy for six years. After leaving the military, Dave managed to find employment by Warren Publishing. He was then hired as an assistant inker to Murphy Anderson. Anderson was responsible for inking various titles featuring Superman and Superboy for DC Comics. The later title was featuring a backup strip by the name of The Legion of Super-Heroes.

Recently Scott Johnson started a Fat Superheroes Pool on Flickr, and there are some good ones on there. I made aFat Spiderman and uploaded it, check it out.
