Security strategy for IE7

Once again, I wonder how misguided the IE team is. In this clip I have highlighted below, Rob Franco states:

IEBlog : Security strategy for IE7: Beta 1 overview, Beta 2 preview
Powerful add-ons like ActiveX controls are part of what make browsing such a rich experience but any extensibility can also introduce threats to browser security.

It is the first part I take issue with. It is NOT ActiveX controls that make browsing a rich experience. It is the great web standards that we have (ie CSS and Javascript…). I use Firefox exclusivly, I dont use ActiveX and sites like Google Maps and others seem pretty rich to me. Point being that I think that they need to focus on making IE standards complient, and secure.

Now that second part of that sentence, I do agree with.

Windows 95 crashes a cash register

Looking back on the Windows95 launch 10 years ago…I remember all those people waiting in line to purchase it like it was a Star Wars movie or something….

The Old New Thing : Windows 95 crashes a cash register
Not everything related to the Windows 95 launch went well. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that a local CompUSA store found that their cash registers crashed at midnight, forcing eager customers to wait ninety minutes before the problem could be resolved. The cause: A bug in the cash register software which had lain undiscovered because the store had never stayed open past midnight before!

Sync your Pocket PC with Linux

I have done this once, and it worked….

Linux.com | Sync your Pocket PC with Linux
You can use a Pocket PC with Linux, but the integration of a device such as Hewlett-Packard’s iPaq with Linux software such as Evolution requires add-on software. If you wish to use a Windows CE device with Linux you will need to install SynCE, a set of open source tools. You can download the software from SourceForge.net.

White House dismisses Chavez assassination call

What in the crap is Pat thinking? He must have finally lost it. His comments are not what I call Christian, or for that matter helping our cause in the US.

These kind of remarks remind me of Jerry Falwell worried about the Teletubbies being gay, and Oral Roberts wanting a ton of money in what was it, six months or God would take his life? These people _do not_ represent me, and do not represent responsible leadership.

CNN.com – White House dismisses Chavez assassination call – Aug 23, 2005
Bush administration officials Tuesday disavowed Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson’s call for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
