Robert Cringely’s Theory on the Apple TV HD

Robert Cringely asks why there is a hard drive in the new Apple TV. I don’t see the big confusion…I believe it is for downloadable content such as Movies/TV shows from iTunes and/or podcasts (Audio or Video). Now, his Peer 2 Peer theory is interesting…but I think unlikely. I wouldn’t want a Peer 2 Peer box in my house.

The new Apple TV media extender is supposed to ship this month, perhaps even by the time you read this column, and if you are like me you are wondering what that 40-gig hard drive is doing inside. I’m guessing we won’t know for sure until later this year, though of course I also think I know the secret answer, too.

Battlestar Galactica – Renewed!

I didn’t have much of a doubt that it would, but this is fantastic news non-the-less.

SCI FI has renewed its Peabody-winning signature series “Battlestar Galactica.” The Channel will bring the critically-acclaimed series back for a minimum of 13 hours. Production will resume this summer with an eye toward a January 2008 premiere. The decision comes after the series’ successful move to Sunday nights.

I had no idea until our vacation last year that Chimney Rock was not a state park, but privately owned! There was a lot of speculation when the family put it up for sale that there would be a development going up there. Looks like that won’t be happening.
